BIRCHGROVE - ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Here at BIRCHGROVE, we are very conscious of the beauty and wildness around us. We try to do what we can to help to conserve it. Consequently you may find reused bags lining your waste bin, and almost empty bottles of  handwash in your en-suite. We are not being mean, merely trying not to be wasteful.

As part of our policy, we belong to the Mull Eco Charter scheme.  This is a self regulated scheme that encourages everyone to reuse, to recycle and to use resources sparingly.

All our cleaning and washing is done with 'Ecover' products where possible.

Our policy on towels is simply to dry the ones you are using, and to replace them later in the day - that way we save on soap, on water, and on electricity. Should you really need a clean one, or should you have an accident and leave a stain on one, please ask for a replacement.

We do our best to recycle bottles and jars - either by reusing them, or by taking them to the bottle bank at Craignure. We have two compost bins, and also recycle paper and card.

Although low energy light bulbs use less energy, we do not use them in the rooms as the light for reading is not so good, and we guess that you don't have the overhead lights on for long enough.

As BIRCHGROVE is a new house, there is plenty of good insulation. We suggest you do not turn up the heating too high, or you may find it uncomfortably hot in the night.

Our excellent showers are run from a pressurised hot water system. Very occasionally they run out, but only after someone has stood under them for a long time!

Finally, please note we have a septic tank which is used also by the two houses either side of us. We appreciate your cooperation in throwing only lavatory paper down the toilet (no impregnated wipes please), and by not using excessive amounts of soap and shampoo in the shower (the water is very soft here).

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you would like to discuss our policy with us, we would be pleased to do so.
